Jessica Karr is a Principal at UMANA, where she oversees venture capital investments for DuContra Ventures and Spider Ventures. Jessica founded a consulting LLC that has helped local and international start-ups to develop and launch new plant-based food products. As the number twelve employee of Impossible Foods, where she worked 6+ years in R&D, she has been part of the plant-based revolution from the start. Jessica contributed to designing and launching the Impossible burger by integrating consumer insights with technical understanding of flavor chemistry, sensory data, and protein biochemistry. She is dedicated to growing mission-driven technologies by leveraging her multi-disciplinary background (MS in Biochemistry and MBA in Sustainable Management), and is passionate about products that improve human and planetary health. Jessica mentors IndieBio and Plug and Play Food, and is an active advisor to two plant-based food start-ups.
